Decking…with Pond

An owner who is a real garden lover, spending many happy hour, relaxing in the tranquility of their space needed that extra special finish to a much loved garden.

Removal of the old ‘dangerous’ decking and creating a safer level. Also moving the concrete fish pond slightly more into the garden. And finally creating a level area from the drive area to the new decking.

The original decking… the client had recently fell off the steps which gave reason to have it changed.
The old pond with the clients treasured fish has seen better days…
The new pond moved slightly more into the garden…

Let the changes begin…

So the first move was to move the fish pond further away from the house, but making it deeper and a little larger. We suggested to make the new pond go a little under the decking to have a shaded area for the fish.

Then the clearance and leveling of the area and then the start to make the ground works to support the decking. The removal of the old decking was left as late as possible so to provide access to the garden for the client.

The original deck just wasn’t safe enough, with unlevel steps and an unnecessary drop from the door. So a design was created to make the levels flow more gently.

The levels are now set. Concreted posts for support are done. Multiple beams, metal braces and over 1000 screws are used! This is the difference when you choose ‘Design & Garden’

Ok, so the hard work is done… so now to the finishing. Here this has the option of the mitred corners…. on all sections, edges and steps. Complex design but a wonderful finish.

This really was a pleasure to do. Complex and occasionally frustrating but a wonderfully satisfying result.
Stunning, don’t you agree? Now for the slabs at the side ©designandgarden July19

So with the finished decking now complete and the fish moved into their new home, works then started on making the step from the decking to the drive level. This was decided that slabbing was suitable, both for ease and tidiness but also for a design look that would later be added for the rest of the pathway at a later day.

Let’s start on this area ©designandgarden July19

Not the easiest level to work to but a neat finish giving access from the parking area.

As a keen gardener, the client now looked forward to adding the finishing touches with plants. As an additional job, a waterfall was made from leftover rocks, creating a gentle flow of water.

The step from the house to the deck is now perfect. A seat at the water’s edge listening to the gentle fall of the waterfall makes this a perfect setting. I now know it has been filled with plants and the deck is still looking as good today, with only minimal care to retain its superb finish.

“The finish wasn’t what I was expecting… it is far better! Amazed and overjoyed by the overall result. I couldn’t of imagined a finish like this” – One Happy Client
